[RUSSIAN & ROMANIAN ROYAL FAMILIES]: Original and unusual 8 x 6 photograph, unsigned, showing the Royal families of Russia and Romania together, [Spring 1914?], including Nicholas II (1868-1918) Emperor of Russia 1894-1917, Alexandra Feodorovna (1872-1918) Empress Consort of Russia 1894-1917, their children Olga Nikolaevna (1895-1918) Grand Duchess of Russia, the eldest daughter of the Tsar and Tsarina, Tatiana Nikolaevna (1897-1918) Grand Duchess of Russia, Maria Nikolaevna (1899-1918) Grand Duchess of Russia, Anastasia Nikolaevna (1901-1918) Grand Duchess of Russia, the youngest daughter of the Tsar and Tsarina and Alexei Nikolaevich (1904-1918) Tsarevich of Russia, the youngest child and only son of the Tsar and Tsarina. Also including from the Romanian Royal family Carol I of Romania (1839-1914) King of Romania 1889-1914. Carol passed away few months after the present photograph was taken; his spouse Elisabeth of Wield (1843-1916) known as Carmen Sylva, Queen of Romania; Ferdinand I (1865-1927) King of Romania 1914-27, his spouse Marie of Romania (1875-1938) Marie of Edinburgh, Queen of Romania; Prince Carol of Romania, future Carol II of Romania (1893-1953) King of Romania 1930-1940; Prince Nicholas of Romania and Princesses Marie and Ileana of Romania. Upper right corner slightly clipped and creasing to the upper left corner, otherwise G The present photograph was probably taken in the spring of 1914, during a visit to Romania. Before World War I there was also some discussion of a marriage between Olga and Prince Carol of Romania two years older than the Grand Duchess, but Olga did not like Carol. During the 1914 visit to Romania she struggled to make small talk with the Romanian crown prince. Both can be seen in the present photograph. The plans were, in any event, put on hold upon the outbreak of war in 1914.
