The Founding of the "Mehadrin" Department of the Jerusalem Rabbinate Reports Handwritten by Rabbi Yisrael Grossman - 1969
Four pages handwritten by Rabbi Yisrael Grossman, which report the decisions about establishing a "Mehadrin" Department of the Jerusalem Rabbinate as well as an updated status report. Important, interesting content. Jerusalem, 1969.
In the report, Rabbi Grossman describes in detail the Halachic instructions for establishing the Mehadrin Department, which were decided upon by him and his colleagues, Rabbi Yitzchak Plakser and Rabbi Aharon Brinstein. He also mentions Rabbi Nissim Antabi as a partner to the inspections. In another report, he goes into detail about the inability to give kashrut certificates to hotels which desecrate the Sabbath in public and specifies the minimal requirements of Sabbath observations in hotels: that there will be no desecration of the Sabbath in public, fixing an automatic elevator, closing the reception office on Sabbath, putting the phone in a hidden corner, using notes for ordering food and avoiding the need to write. Hotels that will do these things will receive a signed kashrut certificate. The hotel managers, however, were unwilling to make the necessary changes except for the Tirat Bat Sheva Hotel and the Ganei Yehuda Hotel…"
The report contains the handwritten names of businesses that had received a Mehadrin kashrut, among them: the Wells Brothers, Machane Yehuda market; Reb Eliyahu Houminer, Ge'ula; Reb Moshe Chassida, Kerem Avraham; Reb Yitzchak Kornet, Me'ah She'arim Market; Ha'Merkaz Hotel, Piness Street; The Reich Pension and Hotel, Beit Ha'Kerem; the Betochachei Yerushalayim Hotel and Pension, Ibn Ezra Street; Ha'Karmi Hotel and Pension, Talpiyot.
