The author Ludwig August Frankl traveled to the Land of Israel in 1856 on a mission from Shimon Lemel to found a modern school in Jerusalem, "The Lemel School." In the book before us, he writes his impressions of the journey to the Orient and to the Land of Israel in particular. The book's author was a controversial figure, and the conclusions he drew caused extensive controversy.
