Luach Birkot HaNehenin - Printed in the Lifetime of the Elder Admo"r, the Author of Tanya

Sefer Luach Birkat HaNehenin, with Seder Netilat Yadayim by the first Admo"r and founder of Chaba"d Chassidism, Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi - the 'Ba'al HaTanya.' First edition, printed in the author's lifetime. Zolkiew, 1801. Incomplete copy.

The 'mahadura kadma' of this work, printed as a book in its own right. Later on, the Alter Rebbe went back and printed it in his siddur (Shklov, 1803) as 'mahadura batra' of the work and called it Seder Birkot HaNehenin (in it, he also changed some of the rulings and determinations from those in the Luach before us).

As written on the title page, there was an earlier edition than this one, and this is also what is accepted in Chaba"d tradition, that a year before this edition was printed, the book was printed in Shklov. However, not even one copy of that edition survived, and it may even have been hidden away by the author, such that for practical purposes, this is the first extant edition. The one who brought this edition to print was Rabbi Ya'akov b"r Naftali Hertz of Brody, the person who printed Sefer HaTanya in its second edition, in Zolkiew, 1799. (Refer to Ch. M. Heilmann, Beit Rebbe, Berdichov, 1902, Part I, p. 168, note 1; Ch. Lieberman, Ohel Rache"l,  New York, 1980, p. 144, note 42, and p. 165 no. 17.)
