"My Wishes for a Happy and Kosher Passover for [You] and [Your] Whole Family" Early Letter Signed by Lubavitcher Rebbe

Letter with Passover greetings signed by the Admo"r Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson of Lubavitch, to Dr. Hillman. 13 Nissan (the day of bedikat chametz), 1948. Brooklyn, New York.

Early letter from the Rebbe (approximately three years before assuming leadership!). He writes on the day of the Tzemach Tzedek's yahrtzeit (whom the Rebbe is named after) - 13 Nissan, the day of bedikat chametz, considered in Chassidic doctrine to be a very lofty day indeed, a day that symbolizes the elimination of "internal chametz" from the holes and cracks.

In his letter, the Rebbe wields his pen with his tremendous genius and recounts Dr. Hillman's novellum about the four cups - in the words of the Rishonim about "Pesach Matzah U'Maror." The Rebbe mentions the Schlesinger edition of the Ramba"m in his letter (it was published in New York the previous year).

The Rebbe concludes his important letter with blessings for Passover, starting in just two days: "I will conclude with wishes for a happy and kosher Passover for [you] and [your] whole family, may they be well." With the Rebbe's signature: "M. Schneersohn."

This letter was written on - relatively rare - official stationery of Merkaz L'Inyonei Chinuch, the most important body in Chaba"d, the umbrella organization covering all the activities of Ma'ayanot distribution and the shluchim enterprise. The Merkaz answered directly to the Rebbe, and was led by him. (The Merkaz, located on the first floor of 770 Eastern Parkway, later became the Rebbe's personal room.) The Merkaz currently administers the Rebbe's private property according to the instructions in his will.

[1] official stationery leaf, 21 cm. The letter is typewritten, with the addition of several words and punctuation marks in the Rebbe's script, and it concludes with the Rebbe's signature.

Very fine condition. Fold marks.
