Manuscript of 'Et Sofer' by Rabbi Ya'akov Even-Tzur. Meknes, C.1820.

The manuscript consists of two parts: Part I - dozens of contract texts, for example: Ketubahs, gets, last wills and testaments; contracts for rentals, sales, forgiveness, gifts, authorizations, protests, notifications and more. Part II - includes dozens of examples of texts for writing missives and letters in beautiful prose and rhyme.

The first part, called Et Sofer, is printed in the book Kerem Chemer by Rabbi Avraham Anvana (Livorno, 1871) page 46b onward. The second part is from, according to its content, Rabbi Ya'akov Even-Tzur's Lashon Limudim that was printed in the book Fez V'Chachamehah Part II (Jerusalem 1979), but this content was not printed there.

The gaon Rabbi Ya'akov ben Tzur [Ya'ave"tz; 1673-1753] was one of the great sages of Meknes. He was a gaon in both the hidden and revealed [aspects of Torah] and a wondrous poet, expert in phraseology and the customs of Morocco. He left behind many writings, all in Torah topics 'and did not leave [out] anything, large or small' (as stated by the Chid"a in Shem Gedolim, in the entry on Et Sofer; refer to the book Malki D'Rabbanan pages 64a -65a for more about his sanctity and righteousness).
