Kanevsky Aminadav Moiseevich (1898-1976). People's Artist of the USSR (1973). Academician of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1973).
Graduated from the graphic faculty of VKHUTEIN. Studied under N. N. Kupreyanov, P. Ya. Pavlinov, V. A. Favorsky, D. S. Moor. He worked in the publishing houses Izogiz, Plakat (since 1924), cartoonist and illustrator in the magazines Pechatnik, Prozhektor, Give, Crocodile (permanently since 1936), Pioneer, Murzilka , the newspaper "Komsomolskaya Pravda", publishing houses "Khudozhestvennaya literatura", "Detgiz".
Author of illustrations for children's books "The Golden Key" by A. N. Tolstoy (1942-1943, 1950), "Moidodyr" by K. I. Chukovsky (1950), to the works of M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin, N. V. Gogol, V.V. Mayakovsky, also cartoons and satirical posters.
In 1937 he created the image of Murzilka, which became famous in the USSR - a yellow fluffy character in a red beret, with a scarf and a camera over his shoulder, for the Soviet children's magazine Murzilka.
