Often referred as the “Father of the Paleontology”, his works with living animals and fossils established the fields of comparative anatomy and paleontology. An attractive D.S., Cuvier, one page, oblong vellum folio, Paris, 22nd January 1824, to Charles Le Nicolais, In French. The document being a Science Bachelor diploma given on behalf of the King by the Royal council of public education. Signed by Cuvier in his capacity as Chancelor and Councelor of the Royal Council. Also signed by Denis Frayssinous, Bishop of Hermopolis, as Grand-Master of the University, by Claude Bernard Petitot as Councelor and by Dominique Charles Nicolle in his capacity as Rector of the Parisian Academy. The document bears a large paper seal affixed of the Grand Master of the French University. In very fine condition. VG £150-200
