HUMBOLDT ALEXANDER VON: (1769-1859) Prussian Geographer, Naturalist and Explorer. A good A.L.S., Le B[aron]n de Humboldt, two pages, Paris, 6th July 1851, to Abbot Amédée Peyron, In French. Humboldt starts sending a respectful homage to Abbot Peyron for his important achievements in one of the most important archaeological regions, and states `The philosophical history of the languages and their organic variety is one of the basis of the history of the races, and although I am not worthy to talk to you about Egyptian antiquities, and about all you have revealed to us about a treasure which research is well known for you, I am nevertheless trying to learn everything which is related or in relation between the physical world and the moral world, between the Nature phenomena and those related to the development of the intelligence and the inventions, such as the thought, since the beginning of the civilization on the banks of the Nile.´ Further requesting from his correspondent his help to welcome a distinguished scholar, a doctor colleague who wishes to have access to the Abbot´s treasures, Humboldt calling himself `Your foolish Egyptian´. Humboldt also adds below his signature a short and funny post-scriptum saying `Deign forgiving my sad writing´. A letter of good content. With blank integral leaf. A very small area of paper loss to the bottom corner, not affecting the text or signature and very small traces of former mounting to the back of the integral leaf. G £250-350
