SECHENOV IVAN: (1829-1905) Russian Physiologist. A Pioneer in electrophysiology and neurophysiology, named by Ivan Pavlov as “The Father of Russian Physiology”. A good A.L.S., I. Sechenov, four pages, 8vo, n.p., 19th November, n.y., to Nikolai Alexeievich, in Cyrillic. Sechenov sends a lengthy letter, and starts with a request regarding a subscription he did not ask for, and which is costing him 24 roubles per year, and being the third time, he states `I have become so tired of this matter that I have decided to send the required amount; but after having thought, I decided to send it not to the shop, but to you so that you would take the enclosed receipt for the amount of 24 roubles for the book entitled “Beträge zur Anatomie und Phisiologie”. I apologise for taking up about two hours of your time, but such is the nature of friendly relationships..´ further referring to family and various matters, saying `You will shortly receive a letter from M. A. addressed to godmother, and there you will find described everything concerning our life; this is why I leave this question aside. Tell godmother (who I kiss warmly and countless times) to write to us about how the university and the Odessan public reacted to the Tsitovich' (nicknamed here “knight of dirty mop”) pasquinade. There is a number of very discrepant rumours about this subject.´ Sechenov concludes on a post-scriptum referring to a letter received from Mechnikov and explaining that he sent his best regards to Kovalevsky. To the fourth page Sechenov annotates the roubles and kopecks figures he sends. Extremely small creasing, otherwise VG £100-150
