Large Collection of Siddurim. 19-20th Century
Large, unique collection of about 125 prayer books in various versions, and printed in various eras and locations. Second half of the 19th century and first half of the 20th century.
The siddurim were printed between [1839-1955] primarily in Europe (Lemberg, Vienna, Frankfurt A.M., Vilna, Warsaw, Satmar, Krotoschin, Breslau, Nurnberg, Basle, Pressburg, Leipzig, Piotrkow, Budapest, Brodt, London, Prague), with some printed in Asia, Africa and America (Jerusalem, Istanbul, Casablanca, Johannesburg, New York). Text according to nusach Ashkenaz, Sephard, Eidot Mizrach and Yemenite. Includes prayer books for the entire year, holidays and high holidays. Some translated into Yiddish, German, English and more. Most include commentaries, laws, customs and other suplements.
Noteworthy pieces in the collection:
* V'Ani Tefila according to the Sephardic custom. Vienna, [1864]. Additional title page for Psalms. Miniature. 10 cm. Rare, not in the National Library.
* Sha'ar HaShamayim section 1. Debrecen, [1942]. Prayer book for Rosh HaShana with Hungarian translation. Rare, not in the National Library.
* Seder Avodas Yisrael [2 copies]. Schoken publishing. [1937]. This prayer book is known for its comprehensive contents; all prayers and hymns for the entire year, their laws and commentary, in addition to the Book of Psalms, in an easy-to-use format. Only 17 cm.
* Seder Tefilot. Warsaw, [1884]. Prayers for the entire year with ten commentaries by prominent Torah personalities. Rare.
* Tiklal. Prayers as per the Yemenite customs with the Eitz Chaim commentary. Jerusalem, [1898]. Unidentified rabbinical signature and inscription on the title page. Rare.
* Otzar HaTefilot. Vilna, [1928]. [2 copies]. Comprehensive prayer book including all the prayers with a lengthy commentary, explanation of the words and all the laws of prayer. One copy is missing the end, from leaf 865.
Most of the prayer books are bound in their original bindings and are in fine – very fine condition. A few prayer books are in moderate condition.
