Pe'at HaShulchan. Bak Press. Safed, 1834-1836. First Edition
Pe'at HaShulchan. Laws of Eretz Yisrael compiled from the literature of Tanaim and Rishonim. Based on the GR"A's halachic system and view on Seder Zeraim. By Rabbi Yisrael of Sklow. Safed, 1836. Yisrael Bak press. First edition.
One of the first seven books printed by Bak in Palestine (Safed). Printing was pushed off from 1833 until 1836 because of the pogrom of 1834 (leaf 2). R' Yisrael of Sklow discusses the pogroms in his introduction and describes the destruction of the press by the marauders. The font indicates that the first 5 leaves and leaves 94 and onwards were printed after the pogrom. The other leaves were printed earlier. In Av 1834, the Chatam Sofer had already received a number of printed sections of the work.
30 cm. [5], 2-109, [1] leaf. Approbations from rabbis of Jerusalem, Safed, Tiberias, Damascus and Baghdad. Approbation of Rabbi Moshe Sofer of Pressburg, Rabbi Avraham Avli Posveler av"d Vilna, and others. Historic preface by Rabbi Yisrael of Sklow: biography of his rebbe the GR"A; description of the tragic story of the "Perushims" immigration to Eretz Yisrael after the death of the GR"A; and the harsh conditions that the immigrants faced. This introduction is a linchpin in the historic documentation of the GR"A and the immigration of the Perushim.
