Shulchan Aruch Even HaEzer and Choshen Mishpat by Rabbi Yosef Karo. Venice, [1598].
Early edition of the Shulchan Aruch printed in a small format, a 'pocket edition'.
Since its printing, the book travelled far: from Venice to Yemen, Yemen to Eretz Yisrael (see the attached material). Due to the scarcity of paper in Yemen, the leaves of the book are scattered with passages from medical books including medicines and pharmacology in Arabic with Hebrew letters. The volume has a cloth wrapper with a long lace. Later, a large wooden slipcase was made for the book.
Yoreh Deah begins on leaf 10 (leaves 10-14 are blemished). Choshen Mishpat is missing about 50 leaves at its conclusion and a number of leaves have been cropped. 14.5 cm. Poor condition.
