Lagorio Lev Feliksovich (1827, Feodosia – 1905, Peterburg).

He studied at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, where landscape painters M.N. Vorobiov and B.P. Villeval'de were his teachers. While living in Feodosia, he was influenced by I.K. Aivazovsky. He was a painter, water-colourist, master of seascapes. In 1845 he went to a sea voyage on the Groziashchy frigate to study the arrangement of warship. He traveled along the Baltic Sea coast to paint etudes, and was sent to Vyborg and to Caucasus with the same purpose. For the "View on the Marsh on the Lisy Nos Cape" picture he was awarded with the Great Gold Medal and the subsidized trip abroad. He visited Paris and Rome, painted in Tivoli, Olevano, Sorrento. He spent eight years in Italy. Pictures done during this stay brought him, after his return to Russia, the status of a professor. He painted large canvases on the basis of studies made during numerous trips to Caucasus, Black Sea and Caspian coasts. In his late years he painted coastal views of Finland and Norway. In 1885, he painted, on Imperial request, pictures on subjects from Russian-Turkish war, and went for this purpose to the seat of war in European and Asian parts of Turkey. The artist's works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum.
