HUGO VICTOR: (1802-1885) French Poet and Novelist.

Signed by Hugo in bold black fountain pen ink with his name alone to the lower photographer's mount. Matted in dark brown and framed and glazed in a decorative frame to an overall size of 10 x 12. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, VGThe French Poet, Novelist and Dramatist of the Romantic Movement, Hugo is considered one of the greatest and best-known French writers. In France his literary fame comes first from his poetry, however outside of France his best-known works are the novels Les Miserables (1862) and Notre-Dame de Paris (1831; known in English as The Hunchback of Notre-Dame). Hugo also earned respect as a campaigner for social causes, such as the abolition of capital punishment. (See also lot 55)
