A LARGE SIGNED AND DATED MELKITE ICON SHOWING THE HOLY FAMILY Lebanon, Michail al-Qudsi, 1855 Tempera on wood panel. Finely executed on a gold ground. A metal halo applied. On the lower border Arabic inscription: ‘This Holy icon was offered to the church of our Lady of Delivrence by Obeid the son of Youssed Elbreidy to the Archbishop of Zahle in 1855. The painting of this icon was done by Michail Mehanna Elkodsy the son of Jacop Elkodsy.’. Vertical crack restored, minor losses. On the reverse label of the Khalil John Sarkis Museum, Beirut (1969). 68 x 46.7 cm. Elkodsy, angefertigt’. Rückseitiges Etikett: Khalil John Sarkis Museum, Beirut (1969).
