A VERY FINE ICON SHOWING ST. PARASKEVA AND ST. CONSTANTINE Byzantine period, Constantinople, 14th century Tempera on gessoed wood panel. Finely executed on a gold ground, the haloes ornately punched. 25 x 19.5 cm. The two saints, frontally depicted, are painted with deep colours. The elongated figures rendered against gold background with relief frame. The icon is painted in a delicate treatment. The charming colour, the serene figures, modelled tastefully and with the strength of spiritual concentration. St. Constantine is dressed in a red tunic with pearl-trimmed hems and the well-known ornamental sash of the Byzantine emperors, as well as a mantle over it.
