HITCHCOCK ALFRED: (1899-1980) British Film Director, Academy Award winner. An excellent vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph of Hitchcock in a head and shoulders pose. A pencil annotation in the hand of a collector to the verso indicates that the photograph was a publicity portrait for the film North by Northwest (1959). Signed by Hitchcock in blue fountain pen ink at the head of the image, 'To Pierre, Alfred Hitchcock'. Some very light, minor wrinkling to the upper edge and one minor, small surface crease to the lower edge, otherwise VG North by Northwest (1959) is a spy thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint and James Mason. The film is listed among the canonical Hitchcock films of the 1950s and is often listed among the greatest movies of all time. Provenance: The present photograph originates from the collection of Pierre Goulliard, a French gentleman who, for over 50 years, dedicated himself to obtaining in person autographs of British, American and European movie stars, always obtaining the signatures in fountain pen ink.
