LAW ENFORCEMENT: Robert Mark (1917-2010) British police officer who served as Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police 1972-77. A.L.S., Robert Mark, two pages, 4to, Esher, Surrey, 5th July n.y., to Mr. Wright. Attached to the upper left corner of the letter is a metallic badge featuring a crown emblem encircled by wreaths, previously worn by Mark, his letter explaining 'This button is worn, so far as I know, only by chief officers of police, i.e. officers above the rank of chief superintendent. I wore this particular one for twenty years, firstly as Chief Constable of Leicester and finally as Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis. If it could speak it would tell you of some memorable occasions, Spaghetti House, Balcombe St and Remembrance Day parade at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst'. Together with three identical United States postage First Day Covers honouring Law and Order individually signed by Robert Mark, David McNee (1925-2019) Scottish police officer, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police 1977-82) and Clarence M. Kelley (1911-1997) American law enforcement officer who served as the second Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation 1973-78 (also signed by Robert Mark). Each of the covers are post marked at Washington DC, 17th May 1968. VG to EX, 4
