Red-figure pelike, attributed to the workshop of the Darius painter. Apulian, clay, ca. 330 BC, h. 34.
On the front, an Eros flying to the left, reaching out his hand for a flower. He is surrounded by acanthus stems, spiraling vines and flowers highlighted with applied yellow and white. A band of upright palmettes at the neck. Below, an egg stick with pearls in applied color. On the reverse, a nude youth standing facing frontally. He holds a staff under his right arm and a cloak draped over his left. He is handing a phial to a woman. She is wearing a chiton, facing left, and holding grapes in her left hand. A short stele stands between the figures. Above it are a wreath and two rosettes. At the neck laurel frieze and egg stick. A palmette complex under the handles. Intact. Minor retouching.
