'HA'MORIYA' – AN ISSUE ABOUT THE RECRUITMENT OF YESHIVA BOYS TO THE TURKISH ARMY
The newspaper 'Ha'Moriya' was an instrument of expression of the level-headed among the people of the Old Yishuv during the Turkish rule.
The issue from 15.4.1913 – an extraordinary issue. The first page contains a fascinating article about "the question of Torah scholars in the army", what today is called 'the recruitment of Yeshiva boys'. "The right of exemption from the army is not only our privilege … people of all the various faiths in the army enjoy and use this spiritual privilege …why, therefore, should we suffer all the difficulties?". At the end of the article, the letter of Rabbi Chaim Nachum, the head of the rabbis of Egypt, about release from recruitment to the army is cited.
The second page contains an interesting letter from Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook to the editor about 'Shevach Ha'Aretz' Society, which protects "the trade of our Holy Land".
4 pages.
Excellent condition.
