MORILLO PABLO: (1775-1837) Count of Cartagena. Spanish General. Also known as The Pacifist. A.L.S., `The Count of Cartagena´, one page, 8vo, n.p., n.d., to Mr. Buchon, in French. The General Morillo sends a messahe to Mr. Buchon asking him to kindly attend and help the bearer of the present letter who is someone he knows well and who will explain to him an affair of his interest. With integral address leaf in Morillo´s hand. The address leaf has been partially cut-off. Overall, minor age wear. G £200-300 Jean Alexandre Buchon (1791-1849) French Scholar and Liberal who took an active part in struggles under the Restoration. Pablo Morillo is a slightly forgotten hero in the Spanish history. He participated in the Battle of Trafalgar in which he was wounded and made prisoner by the English in 1805. He also fought against Napoleon in 1808 during the Napoleonic Wars to defend Spain against the French invasion. Once the war ended, King Ferdinand VII appointed him Expedition Commander and General Captain of the Provinces of Venezuela. He disembarked in Venezuela with the mission to pacify the revolts against the Spanish monarchy in the American colonies, and headed the military campaign to fight Simon Bolivar´s revolutionary armies. Morillo would return to Spain after signing a truce with Bolivar but would continue being involved in many different wars till the end of his life.
