Talleyrand, the document being a signed cheque, New York, 23rd May 1795. The partially printed cheque, completed in Talleyrand´s hand, is drawn on the Bank of New-York for the sum of $25. The cheque being payable to the bearer shows a large ink cross across the document and an ink stain to the upper edge, the ink cross affecting only partially Talleyrand´s signature. No bank cancellations. Irregularly trimmed edges and some overall staining, about G £300-400 Talleyrand left Paris for England just at the beginning of the September 1792 massacres. The National Convention issued a warrant for his arrest in December 1792. In March 1794, King George III orders his expulsion and he is forced to leave the country by Pitt´s expulsion order. He went to the neutral United States where he stayed until his return to France in September 1796. During his stay, he supported himself by working as a bank agent.
