NAPOLEON I: (1769-1821) Emperor of France 1804-14, 1815. An excellent L.S., Nap, one page, 4to, Trianon, 6th August 1810, to the Duke de Feltre, in French. Napoleon dictates the present letter to Méneval, stating in part ´I read on the Empire journal that the 5th Battalion with 1000 men has left Naples on July 25th and is going to Catalonia. Send an immediate order to stop this battalion wherever they will find it now…´ Napoleon further explains the reason of his decision and his intentions referring to Catalonia, saying `I do not intend to encumber the Catalonia with bad soldiers increasing the band of brigands. If that battalion comprises bandits, galley prisoners, or badly uniformed and badly armed men, we will return them to Naples.´ The Emperor concludes saying `..write to the King explaining that I do not need new Neapolitan troops in Spain and that I do not want them.´ Accompanied by the 12mo holograph receipt with trace of former staple.
