PASKEVICH IVAN: (1782-1856) Imperial Russian Marshal. Count of Yeveran and Viceroy of the Kingdom of Poland. Paskevich took part in the battle of Austerlitz and would further attain the rank of field Marshal in the Prussian and Austrian armies. A.L.S., Paskevitch, one page, 4to, Saint Petersburg, 1st December 1824, to an unknown General, in French. Paskevich parts and sends a message to his correspondent stating in part `My dear General, fortuity deprives me of the pleasure of saying goodbye to you..´ further referring to a present given to him as souvenir and saying `May be I´ll have one day the pleasure of meeting you…, or in Paris, at your home; I´ll make my best to make this happen the soonest..´ An extremely small tear to the upper edge, otherwise VG £150-200 In 1831 Paskevich was appointed to crush Polish uprising. Few months later he gave death to Polish hopes of restoring independence at the battle of Warsaw. The period under Paskevich is known in Poland as the ''Paskevich Night'' for his infamous political and economic repressions.
