RHODES-MOORHOUSE WILLIAM : (1887-1915) English Pilot during WWI. The first Airman to ever receive the Victoria Cross, the highest award of British forces. Signed 4 x 2 clipped piece, `Will B. R.Moorhouse´, also dated 8th December 1911 in his hand. The clipped piece has been affixed to a thicker card. Small overall, minor age wear. Accompanied by a contemporary postcard photograph showing Moorhouse monoplane, landed at market Harborough on 8th December 1911. F to G £400-600 On 26th April 1915, Rhodes-Moorhouse after attacking the enemy and releasing his bombs, was severely wounded and his plane badly hit. Returning to the Allied lines, he ran into heavy fire and was wounded twice more. He managed to get his aircraft back, and insisted on making his report before being taken to hospital. He died the next day, and for this action was awarded the Victoria Cross.
