BAKER PASHA: ( 1827-1887) Valentine Baker. British Soldier. Brother of Sir Samuel Baker. A controversial awarded mayor of the Hussards. He was arrested on a charge of indecent assault and after a year´s imprisonment Baker left England and entered the service of the Ottoman Army in the war with Russia. Soon transferred to Mehmed Ali Pasha´s staff, leading an infantry division, and later commanding Suleiman's guard. In his late years he commanded the Egyptian police until his death.
