SUCRE ANTONIO JOSE DE: (1795-1830) Venezuelan Independence Leader, General and Statesman, one of Simon Bolivar's closest friends. Sucre served as President of Peru June-July 1823 and President of Bolivia 1825-28. D.S., A J de Sucre, one page, 4to, Quito, 29th August 1822, in Spanish. The manuscript document refers to Father Olivera who has not taken the Oath to uphold the Constitution. Sucre asks to be informed about this matter, and says `..the laws of the Republic referring to such refusals must be carried out´. The document also reports on Father Aguirre who `..has to leave the city within a week, with a warning to prevent him and others who are expelled from our territory for the same reasons, causing harm with their opinions or influencing and disturbing people and peace in any way.' To the left of the document appears a further manuscript annotation by Don Calixto Miranda, confirming that a passport will be delivered to Father Domingo Aguirre, so that he can leave the territory, and that Brother Ramon Olivera will be informed that '..he must go to his Convent of San Francisco to make a declaration to his Prelate'. With a third manuscript annotation and various countersignatures including Olivera´s one. Small area of paper loss to the left edge of the blank integral leaf and few ink stains to the circular seals on both pages. About VG £400-600
