One Hundred Years Since the Birth of the Artist Reuven Rubin - A Governmental Silver Medallion With a Lithograph Designed by Reuven Nutels

A silver governmental madal with a lithograph in memory of the artist Reuven Rubin, designed by Reuven Nutels according to motifs of the artist Reuven Rubin. Lithograph and color separation: Eli Garbel. 

50 mm. Silver purity: 999. Medallion number: 55. Year of Issuance: 1993. 

The front of the medallion - "Self portrait", a colored lithograph of a self portrait of Reuven, sitting across from an artist easel, with a background of an olive tree and a white dove. Under it is the artist's signature in Hebrew and English. On the bottom section, along the circumference, the years "1893-1993", on the right are the words "The artist Reuven, a hundred years since his birth" and from the left "Reuven Rubin centenary".  

Back of the medallion - "Shaul and David", a relief, a work by Reuven, the young David is playing the harp at Shaul's feet. On the top section, along the circumference, the writing "Saul and David" in both Hebrew and English. 

Circumference, the symbol of the State, from the right "Medinat Yisrael", from left "State of Israel" and the medallion number. 

Reuven Rubin, born in Romania in 1893, came to Israel in 1912 to study in Bezalel. He remained in Israel for a year and then returned to Paris. During the First World War he was in Romania. He returned to Israel in 1922. His first paintings reflect the feeling of  the revival of Jewish life in the Land of Israel. He later began to paint scenery in Israel, and sometimes painted Biblical stories. Three lithographic albums were published in the 1960's whose topics were: King David, Biblical visions and the Prophets. He also painted many portraits, including several self portraits. The medal was issued as part of the "Reuven Self Portrait" exhibition which opened in 1993 in 'Beit Reuven'. 

The medallion is in a designated wooden box with a velvet base. Very fine condition.
