Marc Chagall, A lot containing a document written by Marc Chagall to Gabriel Talpir and sent from Paris in 1933. attached to it are 10 Silver Gelatin reproductions of early works by Chagall, each titled, dated and signed by Chagall.
A letter sent by Marc Chagall to Talfair from Paris in 1933. In his letter, Chagall refers to a letter he received from the Tel Aviv Museum informing him that the planned museum is expanding and that he will be assigned a special wing. In the letter, Chagall expresses his strong feelings for the Land of Israel. He apologizes for his quick writing and explains that he is in the midst of preparations for sending his works created between the years 1907-1933 to Basel, ahead of an exhibition planned for him there. Chagall refers to the prints he sent with his letter (in silver-gelatin printing), which are also included in this lot and requests that they be printed in Gazit. He adds that after "the vandalism committed by Hitler," he no longer has anything to look for in Paris and he returns to Lunz (France), he thanks Talpir for the seriousness with which he and others relate to his works. Chagall signs the letter in order to give his name a kiss on the air of the Land of Israel. He also asks Talpir to try and group his songs by saying, "If I could gather my songs, something good could come out."
The prints attached to this Lot are intended for publication in Gazit. They were taken in a reproduction photo and were printed in the Silver Gelatin method, which to this day is considered to be of very high quality. Each photograph bears the name of the work and the year of its creation, in Chagall's handwriting and signature. In addition, two leaves are attached to a number that deals with Chagall's work, and above each of the images Chagall also included a signature and handwritten title.
