ZOLA EMILE: (1840-1902) French Writer. A main literary figure. A.L.S., Emile Zola, one page, 8vo, Paris, 1st December 1893, to an unidentified correspondent, in French. Zola states `I cannot authorize the publication of ''Lourdes'' in any journal before the novel has been published in ''the weekly magazine'' as I have an agreement with them, and this put back any publication quite far.« With blank integral leaf. Folded with an extremely small tear to the fold right edge, otherwise VG £500-800 Lourdes (1894) Zola conceived this novel after his visit to Lourdes in 1891. He returned the year after and spent time with pilgrims.
