PYATNITSKY KONSTANTIN: (1864-1938) Russian Journalist and memoirist. Pyatnitsky was co-founder of Znanie and associate of Maxim Gorky. In 1937 he published a book of memoirs called M. Gorky Back Home. A good set of five A.L.S., all signed `P. Piatnitzky«, two being Russian postcards and three 4to, one and two pages, written in St. Petersburg and Capri, between October 1911 and January 1914, to Angelo Flavio Suidi, in Italian. Pyatnitsky, facing prosecution, went in exile from 1909 to 1913, most of the letters being written during such period. Pyatnitsky refers on various occasions to his close friend Gorky, stating in part on 24th October 1911, `The news published in the newspaper are fake. Signor Gorky do not want to leave Capri«, further saying on 9th January 1914 `Gorky«s wife Ekaterina Pavlovna with her son Massimo are gone to Moscow. Gorky«s illness has prevented him to travel with his wife to Russia. Although few days ago Gorky travelled to Berlin where the actress Maria Andreeva was waiting for him. With the actress Gorky has returned to Petersburg. He is hiding. It is difficult to understand whyÉ« Pyatnitsky further refers to the Russian government literary amnesty of 1913 and to Gorky«s exile.
