Jomini explains to his correspondent that he has not yet read the Austrian article responding to Buturlin«s speech at the St. Petersburg military academy, and states in part `..The sentence they complain about was hard, that is true, but it should only be understood as rhetoric. The same sentence pronounced in front of a friendly circle would have not been blamedÉ..It is the proof that your intention was not to say that the pedantry was the individuals viceÉWe could also say that Spain is the classic land of the ignorance and fanaticism, and this doesn«t change the fact that there are a thousand exceptions in that Kingdom.. I have to admit that I was shocked when they informed me that each Austrian military was feeling accused of pedantry..« further saying `This army defeated in many battles has even been greater in his last efforts at Essling and Wagram.. The only reproach that could be done to your speech would be if you had printed and distributed it.. I have even demanded the printer to destroy the proofs..« A letter of interesting content.
