Three books featuring engravings and photographs - views in Palestine.
1. A Series of Twenty-Four Views illustrative of The Holy Scripture Selected from Sir Robert Ainsley's Celebrated Collection of Drawings. London: R. Bowyer & M. Parks, 1833. English.
Volume with twenty-four engravings depicting sites in Palestine and the vicinity. The engravings were done after drawings by Luigi (Ludwig) Meyer for the British diplomat and orientalist Robert Ainsley during his service as the ambassador of Britain to the Ottoman Empire.
[1] leaf, [24] engraved plates, 38.5 cm. One leaf may be missing in the beginning of the book. Good condition. Foxing. Some tears at margins of leaves not affecting the engravings. Trimmed margins to some leaves. New binding, with slight defects.
2. D'alger a Constantinople, Jerusalem–Damas, by Ch[arles] Lallemand. Published by Ancienne Maison Quantin, Paris and J. Gervais-Courtellemon, Algiers, [1894?]. French. A travel book to Jerusalem and Damascus, with photographs by French photographers Charles Lallemand and Jules Gervais-Courtellemont.
[3] leaves, 129 pp, [3] leaves + [22] photograph plates (one plate in color), 32.5 cm. Good condition. One leaf is lacking (no.55-56). Leaves half-detached. Lacking one tissue guard. Original binding, restored, stained and slightly unraveled at margins.
3. La Palestine, by Jérôme et Jean Tharaud. Paris: Editions Alpina, 1930. French.
Numerous photographs by different photographers, most of them by Bonfis and a few by American Colony photographers, Jules Richard and more. Some are integrated into the text while others appear on separate plates.
159 pp + 8 plates. Good condition. Dark tissue guards, loose signatures. Worn binding, partly detached.
