NATALYA ALEXEYEVNA OF RUSSIA: (1673-1716) Russian Playwright. Tsarevna of Russia. Elder daughter of Tsar Alexis and sister of Tsar Peter the Great. Rare A.L.S., `Natalia´, one page, 4to, Saint Petersburg, 17th March 1713, to Prince Fyodor Yurievich, in Cyrillic. A curious letter content by the Tsarevna, stating `I am grateful for your letter and especially because you do not forget my home, where you have sent an anonymous letter. I read it and doubted wondering whether it is right not to come and make a complaint or instead produce anonymous letters. In that letter, Starosta [senior royal administrative official] is accused of bribery, and should be interrogated along with the peasants. If his swindle is revealed to you, notify me.´ With blank address leaf. With large remnant of a former red wax seal to the address leaf. Folded. Small overall, minor age wear. About VG £1000-1500 Prince Fyodor Yurievich Romodanovsky (1640-1717) one of Peter the Great´s foremost assistants in the task of modernizing Russia. First head of Russian secret police. Peter the Great gave to her beloved sister Natalya the Gatchina estate and built the first palace there for her. Natalya founded the first hospital in Saint Petersburg in her house. And in 1706, she founded the first Russian theatre in Moscow in her house too.
