Description:
A typewritten letter by Sergey Dovlatov with the author's editing and the inscription above the text: "Dear Luda / Will you be so kind to / hand over this note to your / mother / Greetings to Victor / S." The copy of Dovlatov’s article "Lyudmila Stern. At the place of residence" is attached (4 l .; 30x22 cm).
Information:
Sergey Donatovich Dovlatov (Dovlatov-Mechik; 1941-1990) - writer, journalist. Since the late 1960s his works had been distributed in samizdat that caused the prosecution by the authorities. In 1978 Dovlatov had to emigrate. He was one of the founders and Editor-in-chief of the newspaper "New American" (1980-1982). Nadezhda Friedland-Kramova (1899-2002) - poetess, actress, playwright, writer, translator. She graduated from the famous Gymnasium Stoyunina, then the School of Russian Drama, attended the poetic seminar of Nikolai Gumilyov. In the 1920s she played in the well-known Petrograd theater "Balaganchik", starred in many films ("Napoleon-Gas", "Grand Hotel", "Minaret of Death", etc.). In the 1960s and 1970s, her Leningrad apartment was one of the literary life's centers of the city through the friendship of her daughter Lyudmila Stern with Joseph Brodsky, Yevgeny Rein, Dmitry Bobyshev and Anatoly Naiman. In 1976 she emigrated with her family to the USA.
