ZAMENHOF LUDWIK: (1859-1917) Polish Linguist. Best-known as the creator of the constructed international language of Esperanto. Zamenhof was twelve times nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Rare A.L.S., `Zamenhof´, one page, small 4to, Warsaw, n.d., on his personal stationery, to Edouard Kuhrt in Prague, in Esperanto, with two words in Czech. Zamenhof states in part `It was with great pleasure that I read your letter with the welcome report about the progress of our project in Prague….Unfortunately our Warsaw group can do nothing in support of the Prague Esperantists because of the current horrible condition of our city and country..´ The letter bears to the upper left corner Zamenhof´s decorative purple ink address stamp.
