The Godseekers. Album with seven woodcuts by Reuven Rubin. Jerusalem: Binet Gallery, 1966. Splendid album with seven woodcuts (out of ten) by Reuven Rubin, signed and numbered. Introduction in Hebrew and in English by Dr. Haim Gamzo. The album was published in an edition of 85 copies. The first 20 copies are kept in a parchment pouch, handmade, with hand-embossed decorations. The copy presented is number 12.
On the title-page appears a dedication hand signed by Rubin, for the Jewish-British businessman and philanthropist Sir Isaac Wolfson, and his wife.
The album "The Godseekers" was created by Reuven Rubin in 1923 and composed of a dozen woodcuts in an expressionistic style. The illustrations present images which combine Jewish tradition with Eretz Israel views during the third Aliya period. In 1966 the work was re-published by "Binet Gallery". The album published in 1966 contains only ten of the twelve woodcuts (two have been omitted since they were not modest enough in the eyes of Gershon Binet, an observant Jew). [3] leaves, [7] woodcuts [three missing]. Woodcuts: average size 31X36 cm. Parchment pouch: 41:58 cm. Very good condition.
