Double Beaker – for Bride and Groom– Central Europe

Double beaker for bride and groom. [Central Europe, 19th cent.]. Silver (marked), engraved. A pair of wide cups, on one of them an engraved inscription:"for the groom Avraham Moshkovitz…", and on the other the inscription:"for the bride Shifra Gitza daughter of Zeev Wolf Meisles…". The cups were made according to German communities' custom, where two cups were designated for the groom and bride. The cups were used during the bridal ceremony (one was for the engagement blessing and the other for the Seven Blessings).Afterwards the cups were kept with their spouts assembled one on top of the other, and they look like a barrel [a similar custom is common for a circumcision ceremony.
