Marriage Certificate of the Posek HaDor Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach. Jerusalem, 1930
Official Edah Chareidit of Jerusalem marriage certificate for the marriage of the "Posek HaDor," the gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach.
The document contains many details regarding the bride and the groom, the date and location of the wedding, and more. One of the witnesses signed on the document is the kabbalist Rabbi Shimon Horowitz, one of the rashei yeshivah of Sha'ar HaShamayim, which was lead by the bridegroom's father, Rabbi Chaim Leib Auerbach.
This union resulted in seven sons who are among the rabbinic leaders of the generation, who illuminate the world with their Torah: The firstborn, Rabbi Shmuel Auerbach, was one of the leaders of the Lithuanian ("yeshivah") public who shook the world; and the youngest son, Rabbi Baruch Auerbach, whose life was cut short at its peak; ztz"l; and, may they be distinguished for life: the gaon Rabbi Avraham Dov Auerbach, ga'ava"d of Tiberias; the gaon Rabbi Ezriel Auerbach, rabbi of Bayit Vegan; Rabbi Mordechai Auerbach, rabbi of the Abir Ya'akov community in Tel Aviv and president ofֲ  'Taharat HaMishpachah'; the gaon Rabbi Meir Simchah Auerbach, rabbi and rosh yeshivah in Beitar; the gaon Rabbi Ya'akov Auerbach, rabbi of the Darkei Shmuel community.
Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach [1910-1995] was the rosh yeshivah of Kol Torah and one of the leading halachic adjudicators of the past generation. He was called "Posek HaDor" as a result of his rulings that were unquestionably accepted by all factions of the Jewish people. When he was just 24 years old, he published his book Meorei Esh, which deals with electricity on Shabbat. Ever since, he has been considered the highest authority on issues of halachah and technology. He was famous for his modesty, his gentleness and his radiant facial expression. He never agreed to serve in any official rabbinate. Hundreds of thousands attended his funeral.
