Letter from the Gaon Rabbi Baruch Ber Leibowitz, Author of "Birkat Shmuel," to Rabbi Kook, Chief Rabbi of the Land of Israel
Lengthy letter from the gaon Rabbi Baruch Dov [Ber] Leibowitz to Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook. Kaminetz, 1934.
The letter opens with exalted titles for Rabbi Kook: "The true gaon, the tzaddik, glory of the generation, the honorable ..." The letter has a request for a student at the yeshivah, the youth Gedaliah Schneider, "a future rabbinic leader." Rabbi Baruch Ber urgently requests a permit for him to immigrate to the Land of Israel, and he adds that it is a matter of life-and-death, and that he is in a dangerous situation. Rabbi Baruch Ber does not detail the dangerous situation compelling immediate travel to the Land of Israel. It can be assumed that it is a matter of being inducted into the army, and that due to censorship, Rabbi Baruch Ber avoided explicitly specifying the reason.
For biographies of Rabbis: Baruch Ber, Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook, and Gedaliah Schneider, refer to the Hebrew catalog text.
