Letter by the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz, Rosh Yeshivah of the Mir Yeshivah. Jerusalem, 1975
Letter by Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz, rosh yeshivah of Mir, about supporting the Mir yeshivah - the largest yeshivah in Israel.
The letter mentions: 'My son-in-law R' Yitzchak Ezrachi, shlit"a' [one of the current rashei yeshivah]. Rabbi Chaim offers his profuse blessings upon the birth of a grandson: "May you merit raising him to Torah, chuppah and good deeds."
Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz [1903-1979] was a grandson of the Alter of Novarodhok, and son-in-law of Rabbi Eliezer Yehudah Finkel. As a youth, he was known as "the ilui from Stuchin." He served as the rosh yeshivah of Mir for many years, as well as being a member of Agudat Yisrael's Council of Torah Sages. Aside from his tremendous scholarliness, he was also known for his great righteousness. The Mir yeshivah was exiled to Shanghai, Japan at the outbreak of WWII, for five and a half years. Despite its impossible financial situation, Rabbi Chaim shared the Mir yeshivah's meager resources with the other yeshivahs that were exiled there, including the yeshivahs of: Lubavitch, Kletzk, and Kaminetz. Rabbi Chaim was one of the rabbinic leaders most well-known for his diligence and for his ingenious lectures. Rabbi Elazar Menachem Shach stated in his eulogy for him: "Since Rabbi Chaim passed away, there are no more diligent scholars."
