MALIBRAN MARIA: (1808-1836) Spanish Mezzo-Soprano. Mme Malibran is sorry to say..´ At the end of the letter and beneath her signature, Malibran states `Excuse my bad English´. A letter of interesting content, unusually written in English by Malibran. Small overall age wear, mostly to the edges, with a very small tear to the fold, otherwise G £600-900 Giuseppe Saverio Mercadante (1795-1870) Italian Composer. A prolific opera composer, his development of operatic structures, melodic styles and orchestration contributed significantly to the foundations upon which Giuseppe Verdi built his dramatic technique. Nitocri (1824) is an opera in two acts by Mercadante. The libretto is fictionalised account of the Egyptian queen Nitocris. Although the opera fell into oblivion, Mirteo's aria ''Se m´abbandoni'', remained a popular concert piece, sometimes interpolated into other operas, as Maria Malibran did in the final scene of Zingarelli's Giulietta e Romeo.
