MASSENA ANDRE: (1758-1817) Marshal of France, Duc de Rivoli. L.S., Massena, one page, 4to, Zurich Head Quarters, 19th November 1799, to General of division Soult, in French. The partially printed document issued by Massena, states `It was by mistake my dear General that Rheinwald sent the orders to you to Mels; you should have received them, and consequently your new commandment.´, further saying `I wish, my dear General, that you make a full recognition of the forces before Basel, and that you lead the action, because this move is necessary to really know which ones are the forces you have before you.´ Signed by Massena at the base in his capacity as General and Chief Commandant of the Danube Army. A clean document carefully penned. Paper with watermark. Bottom edge very slightly irregular, otherwise VG £600-900 Nicolas Jean de Dieu Soult (1769-1851) Marshal of France, Duc de Dalmatie.
