Painter.
People artist of Russia, the honoured benefactor of arts of Ukraine.
He was born on December 20, 1924 in a village Karavaevo, Petushinski region of Vladimirskaya area.
In 1940 he entered the Palekhsk art school and then continued studying in Ivanov art school where M. Pyrin and A. Kuznetzov, the professor and L. Sherwood, the academician gave lessons.
In 1942 he was called to the military service.
K.A. Prokhorov got government rewards.
In 1946 the artist moved to the Crimea and continued his study in the art school named after N.S. Samokish, Simferopol and successfully graduated from it in 1948.
In 1948 K.A. Prokhorov became a member of the USSR Union of artists. He got to work in the Crimean area picture gallery and simultaneously became a student of the correspondence course of the Institute of art and sculpture and architecture named after I.E. Repin of Art Academy of the USSR in Leningrad.
From 1949 to 1954 K.A. Prokhorov tought in the Simferopol art school named fater N.S. Samokish and from 1955 to 1965 he headed the Crimean area department of the Ukranian Union of artists.
In 1955 K.A. Prokhorov’s pictures “Flourishing almond” and “Artek bay” were presented to J. Neru, the prime minister of India and Indira Gandi by the government of the USSR.
From 1958 to 1973 the artist made creative trips around the country and abroad. As the result the new pictures devoted to nature and people of Siberia and Ural as well as Vologod and Archangelsk area appeared. Unforgivable moments were engraved by the artist in the series of sketches during his trip to “Zlata Prague”, being the most beautiful place of Europe. The creative trip to the ships of Black Sea fleet as well as the work over the monument picture “Devoted to defenders of Sevastopol” have taken a special place in K.A. Prokhorov biography.
In 1974 the painter together with his family moved from the Crimea to Moscow area and settled near the town of Dmitrov where he lives up to now. There he is actively involved in the art and public life of the Moscow area department of Russian Union of artists and creatively and fruitfully works at his new creations. K.A. Prokhorov takes an active part in the town, area, republican and all-union art exhibitions as well as in the exhibitions for sale of Russian painters’ works in Poland, Hungary, Holland and Germany. His one-man exhibitions are held in Moscow, Kiev, Sevastopol and Dmitrov. The last exhibition was held in the Dmitrov museum of Local Lore in December 1999. It was devoted to the 75th anniversary of the painter birthday.
K.A. Prokhorov pays a great attention to the work of local lore, connected with the study of his native village Karavaevo. Due to the painter’s mobile initiatives the church was restored in the village. The church has not only spiritual but also an architect and historic value. The artist gave the icon written by him to the church as a gift. The gift has become sacred by the priest.
