A TWO-PAGE ENGRAVING BY VLADIMIR FAVORSKY. 1930'S
A two-page engraving by Vladimir Favorsky for the epic song "Slovo o polku Igoreve" ["The Word to the Honour of Prince's Ihor Regiment"]. The engraving depicts a difficult battle, when the Polovtsy gathered all their forces and surrounded the Russian soldiers, drove them from the water, and killed many. Warriors defend themselves, some with a sword and shield, some just with an ax. Clouds go and lightning sparkle, arrows fly, soldiers and steppe grasses fall. Residual forces gathered at the banner. The ornament around the picture suggests that the falcons are entangled and captured.
