Vidberg Sigismund Janowicz (1890–1970)

Graphic artist, arts and crafts artist, teacher. He studied at the Central school of technical drawing of Baron A. L. Stieglitz in St. Petersburg (1908-1915) under K. A. Brenzen. Since 1921, he lived and worked in Riga. He worked in the field of easel and applied graphics: engaged in book and magazine illustration, exlibris, created sketches of stained glass windows, fabrics, paintings on porcelain. He illustrated and designed one of the first Soviet magazines «Plamya» (1918-1920). One of the organizers of the baltars porcelain painting workshop (1924-1929). Since 1913 — participant of Russian and international exhibitions. Member of the Association «Green crow» (1927-1929), Society of Riga graphics (1928-1932). He taught at the art Studio of the Riga people's higher school (1927-1934) and the Latvian Academy of arts (1940-1941). In 1944, he emigrated to Germany and moved to the United States in 1949. The works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, as well as in private collections in Russia and abroad.
