Popkov Viktor Efimovich (1932, Moscow – 1974, Moscow).

Laureate of the USSR State Prize of 1975 awarded for the series of paintings “Reminiscences”. One of the most major representative of "austere style"of 1960th.
Studied at Moscow State College of Graphics (1948-1952), then at Surikov Moscow State Institute of Arts in E.A. Kibrik`s studio (1948-1952).
After graduation he traveled much around the country: visited construction site of Irkutskaya hydroelectric power station (1956), construction site of Abakan-Taishet railway road (1959), construction site of Bratskaya hydroelectric power station (“Builders of Bratskaya Hydroelectric Power Station”), virgin lands of Russian North (cycle “Mezen Widows”).
Kept to a special genre of dramatic of picture-metaphor.
During the World biennale of young artists in Paris in 1961 was awarded GrandPrix for the pictures “Twain” and “Brigade is Taking a Rest”. The artist`s personal exhibitions were conducted in 1976 in Moscow and Leningrad. Popkov`s works were regularly exhibited in the USSR and abroad.
The artist`s works are kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery and in numerous regional museums.
