Kuprin Alexandr Vasilyevich (1880, Tambov region – 1960, Moscow).

Alexander Kuprin was among the founding members of the Jack of Diamond group (1910).
He studied at the workshops of L. Dmitriev-Kavkazskiy (1902–1910) in St. Petersburg and K. Juon (1904–1906) in Moscow, as well as at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1906–1910).

In 1913 –1914 he made a journey to Italy and France. His work was thoroughly influenced by Ilya Mashkov and Paul Cézanne; he was among the most consistent Russian Cezannists. Apart from the Jack of Diamond, Kuprin was a member of the Society of Moscow Artists and the Moscow Painters group. In the late 1910s and 1920s, his works showed a cubist tendency. From the 1930s on, he mainly worked in the field of landscape painting, painting views of the Crimea and industrial sites.

Alexandr Kuprin taught at the Free Art Workshops in Moscow, Nizhniy Novgorod and Sormovo (1918–1922), at the Higher Art and Technical Workshops, later Institute (VHUTEMAS-VHUTEIN), at the Moscow Higher Art and Industry College and other education institutions until 1952.

His works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, in many regional museums and in private collections.
