Rizzoni Pavel Antonovich (1823 – 1913)

Russian painter and graphic artist, genre painter, academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts. The elder brother of the painter A.A. Rizzoni. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1839-1847) as a free student in the class of historical painting with A. T. Markov, in the class of battle painting with A.I. Sauerweid (since 1843). Consistently won all the medals of the Academy: a small silver medal (1842) for the painting “Woman with Vegetables”, a small silver medal (1843), a large silver medal (1844) for the painting “Game of Dice”, a small gold medal (1845) for the painting “The Interior of the Russian taverns." Title of class artist for painting domestic scenes (1846). He was awarded a large gold medal for the painting “The Busy Market” with the right to a pensioner’s trip abroad for a period of six years (1847). Foreign pensioner of the Academy of Arts (1848-1849) in Germany, Holland, Belgium. Lived in St. Petersburg. He worked primarily as a genre painter; painted still lifes and landscapes. Participated in academic exhibitions (1849–1877). In 1861–1866 he served as a drawing teacher at the Mariinskaya, Voznesenskaya and Aleksandrovskaya women's gymnasiums, giving private lessons in painting and drawing. Rizzoni's works are in a number of museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and others.
